Zinc is a metal. Its main use is to create alloys such as bismuth bronze and brass .

Obtaining

Zinc's ore is called sphalerite, and can be found at relatively shallow depths. Sphalerite nuggets cannot generate on the surface.

Zinc's texture is nearly invisible on some rock colors, especially granite. It's possible to view and even mine a block of zinc-bearing rock without realizing it at first.

In the following table, the "Texture variants" images were taken in full sunlight at noon. The area on the left of each strip is plain rock, to better compare with the zinc-textured rock that follows.

Usage

Pure zinc ingots can be smithed into zinc plates, for use in Archimedes screws .

Alloys

Sphalerite nuggets can be mixed with various metals in a crucible to be smelted into ingots of various alloys.

Bismuth bronze 850°C Zinc 20-30% Copper 50-70% Bismuth 10-20%
