Blocks

Soil blocks are blocks constructed using soil and other natural components including dry grass and stones . These blocks are used for building structures and creating walkways.

Creation

There are three types of soil blocks players can craft: cob, packed dirt and stone path blocks. All of these types of blocks are created in the crafting grid.

Cob

Cob requires soil and dry grass to create.

  • Block Shapes: Only full blocks can be created. Cob slabs and stairs cannot be created.
  • Material variant: Any soil variant can be used to craft these blocks.
  • Appearance: The type of dirt does not affect the appearance of the block.

Packed dirt

There is a 2nd version of packed dirt: arid packed dirt, which is a lighter shade of brown. Arid packed dirt requires soil and sand to create, while packed dirt only requires soil .

  • Block shapes: Only full blocks can be created. Packed dirt slabs and stairs cannot be created.
  • Material variant: Any soil or sand variant can be used to craft these blocks.
  • Appearance: The type of materials used in crafting does not affect the appearance of the block; only the sand/soil components added during creation define whether the block is dark or light.

Usage

Building Component

  • Cob and packed dirt are primarily used to create player structures and are handy in early stages of the game. The materials required to craft these blocks can be harvested or gathered using simple stone tools, and except for dry grass, do not require tools at all.
  • Grass does not grow on packed dirt. This makes it an ideal material to place around a pit kiln built outdoors so that the heat from the oven does not cause a fire in the tall grass. If the grass is 3 blocks from the hole, there will be no danger.

Pathways

Stone path blocks are used to create walkways, but can also be used to build structures. Traveling on pathway blocks increases player movement rate by 33%.

See Path for other types of pathways.
