There are 6 types of roof blocks players can craft: sod, thatch, bamboo, clay, slate and copper. All of these types of blocks are created using the crafting grid. They come in 5 shapes: slanted roofing, roofing corner (inner), roofing corner (outer), roof ridge and roof tip.

Although cob blocks also protect against the weather and the creatures that inhabit Vintage Story, roofing blocks will transform your hovel into a much better looking house.

Obtaining

Crafting

There are 6 types of roofing blocks players can craft: sod, thatch, bamboo, clay, slate and copper. All of these types of blocks are created using the crafting grid. They come in 5 shapes: slanted roofing, roofing corner (inner), roofing corner (outer), roof ridge and roof tip.

Sod roofing

Though their look is quite rustic, sod roof blocks require dry grass , boards and medium fertility soil to create. So they cannot be crafted early in the game since boards require a saw to be crafted.

  • Material variant: None.
  • Appearance: The type of wood used to make the boards does not affect the final appearance of the sod block.

Thatch roofing

Thatch roofing blocks require thatch (harvested using a knife from tule plants) or hay or aged hay to create. They can be crafted early in the game since these materials are easily obtained.

  • Material variant: thatch , hay , aged hay
  • Appearance: Roofing blocks created from aged hay will have a different appearance from roofing blocks created from thatch or hay.

The recipes for aged hay roofing blocks are similar to the recipes for the hay roofing blocks.

Bamboo roofing

Clay brick blocks require single bricks and mortar to create. They are available in 4 colors: blue, brown, red, and light brown (fire clay).

  • Block Shapes: Full blocks, slabs (half blocks), stairs and chimneys can be created - crafted chimneys are the unlit version.
  • Material Variant: Any clay variant can be used to craft these blocks.
  • Appearance: The type of clay used in crafting affects the appearance of the block.

Brown clay and red clay cannot be crafted in Survival mode at the moment. Only blue clay and fire clay blocks can be crafted.

Refractory brick blocks

Refractory brick blocks require single refractory bricks and mortar to create. They are available in 3 tiers. The higher tiers are more heat resistant.

  • Block Shapes: Full blocks and grating can be created.
  • Material Variant: There are 3 tiers available. Tier 1 is 90% heat resistant, tier 2 is 95% heat resistant and tier 3 is 99.9% heat resistant.
  • Appearance: The tier of the single refractory bricks used in crafting affects the appearance of the block.
