Mortar is a player-crafted item. It is used in several building material recipes.
Creation
Mortar is created by mixing slaked lime with sand using the barrel crafting mechanic.
For a yield of 64 mortar:
- Grind 16 limestones or similar lime-yielding stones, in a quern or with a hammer in the crafting grid.
- Cook the resulting lime powder in a firepit , using peat bricks or other fuel reaching at least 825 °C.
- Place the resulting 8 quicklime in a barrel containing 2 liters of water.
- Finally, add 8 sand of any type.
Usage
Mortar is used as a component in the crafting grid to create:
- Ashlar blocks
- Ashlar block slab
- Ashlar block stairs
- Clay bricks (refractory bricks, blue bricks or brown bricks)
- Clay bricks slab (from fire clay, blue clay or brown clay)
- Clay bricks stairs (from blue clay or brown clay)
- Refractory brick grating (Tier 1, 2 or 3)
