Although cob blocks also protect against the weather and the creatures that inhabit Vintage Story, roof blocks will transform your hovel into a much better looking house.

Obtaining

Crafting

There are 6 types of roof blocks players can craft: sod, thatch, bamboo, clay, slate and copper. All of these types of blocks are created using the crafting grid. They come in 5 shapes: slanted roof, roof corner (inner), roof corner (outer), roof ridge and roof tip.

Sod roof

Sod roof blocks require dry grass , boards and Medium fertility soil to create.

  • Material variant: None.
  • Appearance: The type of wood does not affect the appearance of the blocks.

Clay brick blocks

Clay brick blocks require single bricks and mortar to create. They are available in 4 colors: blue, brown, red, and light brown (fire clay).

  • Block Shapes: Full blocks, slabs (half blocks), stairs and chimneys can be created - crafted chimneys are the unlit version.
  • Material Variant: Any clay variant can be used to craft these blocks.
  • Appearance: The type of clay used in crafting affects the appearance of the block.

Brown clay and red clay cannot be crafted in Survival mode at the moment. Only blue clay and fire clay blocks can be crafted.

Refractory brick blocks

Refractory brick blocks require single refractory bricks and mortar to create. They are available in 3 tiers. The higher tiers are more heat resistant.

  • Block Shapes: Full blocks and grating can be created.
  • Material Variant: There are 3 tiers available. Tier 1 is 90% heat resistant, tier 2 is 95% heat resistant and tier 3 is 99.9% heat resistant.
  • Appearance: The tier of the single refractory bricks used in crafting affects the appearance of the block.

Looting

Some clay brick blocks can be looted in ruins . The lit version of the chimney, which emits smoke, can be only be found in ruins.

Purchasing

  • Single clay bricks can be purchased from building materials traders . But these traders only sell blue, brown, red, and fire single bricks.
  • Even if you purchase brown or red single bricks in Survival mode, you will not be able to craft the other blocks using mortar because no recipe is available at the moment.

Usage

Building component

  • Mudbrick blocks and clay brick blocks are primarily used to create player structures. Slabs can be placed horizontally or vertically.
  • Refractory brick blocks are specifically used to build the cementation furnace, which is necessary for steel making .
