Hot springs are naturally-occurring phenomenon that contain dangerously hot water.
Generation
A default world has a small chance of generating hot springs. You can adjust their prevalence with the "Geologic Activity" option during the Customize phase of creating a new world.
Features
Hot springs generate with a unique gravel type, which are typically topped with "mats" of colorful bacteria:
Uses
- Standing near a hot spring helps to raise the character's body temperature, if it was below 37.8.
- Creatures can be chased/lured into the hot spring to injure them. While they prefer running around a hot spring to entering it, they don't deviate much from their trajectory while the player is in pursuit, and will usually fall into the water long enough to take a little heat damage. Since hot springs are not deep, it's usually possible to safely harvest corpses from the shore.
- Only touching the water causes harm; the bacteria mats may be walked on safely.
History
- Hot springs were introduced with version 1.18.0-pre.1 [1]
- Version 1.18.8 removed the ability to transport hot water via buckets.[2]
Notes
Apparently, hot springs are equally likely to generate in all biomes.
