Purchasing
You can purchase pickaxes from Survival Goods Traders. They sell them sometimes:
- Tin-bronze pickaxe: for an average price of 9 rusty gears.
- Bismuth-bronze pickaxe: for an average price of 10 rusty gears.
- Black bronze pickaxe: for an average price of 11 rusty gears.
Usage
The pickaxe is the primary tool used in mining ores and rocks. Some Ore Deposits require a higher tier Pickaxe to mine them though:
Tool Tier | Tool material | Ore that can be mined |
---|---|---|
2 | Copper | Native copper, malachite (copper), galena (lead), cassiterite (tin), sphalerite (zinc), bismuthinite (bismuth), halite (salt), sylvine (saltpeter), sulfur, lapis lazuli, marble, corundum, alum, brown coal |
3 | Bronze | Hematite/magnetite/limonite (iron), borax, quartz, native gold, native silver, fluorite, graphite, kernite, phosphorite, olivine, peridot, cinnaber, emerald, diamond, black coal, anthracite |
4 | Iron | Meteoric iron, pentlandite (nickel), rhodochrosite (manganese), uranium |
5 | Steel | Ilmenite (titane), chromite (chrome) |
*Silex can be mined with your bare hands.
**Saltpeter can be mined faster by using a shovel.
Harvesting
- Pickaxes are used to harvest rocks. This requires to break all 6 surrounding blocks of the rock block you want. The central block will drop on the ground and allow you to pick it up intact.
- Pickaxes are used to break rocks to obtain stones.
- Pickaxes are used to break rocks containing ore deposits to obtain chunks of ore. Those have to be crushed with a hammer in the Crafting Grid to obtain smeltable nuggets.
- Pickaxes are used to break rocks containing minerals (quartz, borax, peridot, etc) to obtain those minerals.
Selling
You can sell the pickaxes you craft to Treasure Hunter Traders. They purchase sometimes:
- Tin-bronze pickaxe: for an average price of 4 rusty gears.
- Bismuth-bronze pickaxe: for an average price of 5 rusty gears.
- Black bronze pickaxe: for an average price of 6 rusty gears.
Storage
Pickaxes can be stored in containers and placed on tool racks.
