Fat is one of the products a player can obtain when harvesting animals using a knife.
Obtaining
Harvesting
Fat is one of the most common resources gathered from dead animals. Animal sources that may provide fat are pigs, sheep, foxes, wolves and hyenas.
Purchasing
Traders (Agriculture) may sell lumps of fat for an average price of 2 rusty gears for a stack of 3.
Usage
Food
Fat can be used as an emergency food source if you have nothing else to eat.
Fuel
Fat is flammable and can be used as an emergency fuel that lasts 96 seconds.
Food preservation
Fat is used for sealing crocks, allowing stored meals to last longer. Beeswax can fulfill this role if you have run out of fat.
