A butterfly pin is a cosmetic item.
Obtaining
As of 1.19.8, there is no crafting recipe or trade option for the butterfly pins. They do not drop when panning with bony soil, sand, or gravel, and do not drop from breaking cracked loot vessels.
Butterfly pins include a total of 50 variants. There is no direct correlation between the variants of pins and variants of species (living entities) in the game. Some variants such as the Butterfly pin (Rust) variant, does not have a matching species. Meanwhile, the Apollo Butterfly does not have a matching pin variation.

Usage
Butterfly pins can be equipped in the emblem slot of the character panel. Emblems do not provide any warmth bonus. You can check the Clothes article for a list of other emblems.
Storage
Butterfly pins can be stored in chests and similar containers. They cannot be stored or displayed on armor stands or in display cases.
History
Butterfly pins as items were added alongside butterflies in version 1.18.0.
Notes
There have been reports of players looting variants of butterfly pins from chests in ruins.
