Player created resources are components used in other crafting mechanics. These items often have more than one use within game mechanics, and some items in this list are used to create other useful resources also included here. This page is provided as a "quick reference" summary of player created resources (indexed by component category). For more information on crafting or using these materials, please see the individual item pages or process guides.

Wood

Wood items are crafted from logs harvested from trees using an axe. Logs are converted into the following items:

Boards

Grid Oak Board.png Boards are created in the crafting grid using a saw and any planks or logs. Boards are the primary material component used in crafting wood items including plank blocks, doors, fences, wood storage containers, functional items such as buckets and barrels.

Firewood

Grid Firewood.png Firewood is created in the crafting grid using an axe and any log. Firewood is used in the creation of the firepit and in the creation of charcoal. Firewood can be used as a fuel in the firepit to complete processes such as cooking and clay forming but is not used in the forge or bloomery.

Charcoal

Grid Charcoal.png Charcoal is created in a charcoal pit and is the primary fuel used for metalworking, including casting and smithing. Charcoal can be used in the firepit, forge and bloomery.

Rock: Ores

Ores and Metal nuggets obtained through foraging, panning or mining must be processed prior to use in smithing. Some ores must be ground using a quern or crushed using a hammer in the crafting grid to convert the mineral into usable form.

Ingots

Ingot-copper.png Ingots are crafted using the casting mechanic or using the bloomery functional block. For iron, the bloomery produces iron bloom. This must go through an additional processing step to get to become an iron ingot.

Potash

Potash.png Potash is obtained from crushed or ground sylvite. Potash is used as fertilizer in farming.

Rock: Stone

Small stones must be ground using a quern or crushed using a hammer in the crafting grid to convert the stone into usable form.

Salt

Grid Salt.png Salt is obtained from crushed or ground halite. Salt is used in the food preservation barrel crafting mechanic.

Lime

Grid Lime.png Lime is obtained from crushed or ground chalk or limestone. Lime is used in the barrel crafting mechanic leather working. When converted to quicklime is used to craft mortar.

Mortar

Grid mortar.png Mortar is created using sand and quicklime in the barrel crafting mechanic.

Clay

Clay bricks are made in the crafting grid and must be burned in a pit kiln before use.

Bricks

Grid Fired fire brick.png Fire bricks, created using fire clay, are used to construct the bloomery functional block, as well as blocks and decorations.

Grid Fired blue brick.png Blue bricks, created using blue clay, are used to craft blocks and decorations.

Animal Products

Resources from butchering are processed to create other materials. Raw Hides can be converted into two materials: leather and pelts.

Leather

Grid leather.png Leather is created using leather working, a type of barrel crafting mechanic. Leather is used in crafting armor and portable storage containers

Pelts

Grid hide pelt large.png Raw Hides can be oiled with fat to create pelts. Pelts are used in crafting armor and portable storage containers

Bonemeal

Bonemeal.png Bonemeal is ground from bones and used as fertilizer in farming.

Plant Fibers

Twine and Linen are created from flax fibers using the grid crafting mechanic.

Twine

Grid Flax twine.png Twine is used when crafting armor, bows and functional items including and portable storage containers and buckets.

Linen

Grid Normal stitched linen.png Linen is used to craft armor, and portable storage containers, healing poultices, and furniture including beds.

Storing Stacks

Some resource items including player created items Firewood, Ingots, Boards, and the harvested resource peat bricks may be stored on solid blocks. If container space is limited, stacking resources is a storage option that keeps resources readily available for player use.

To place resources in stacks

  1. Hold the resource in the active hand, Sneak + right mouse button to place onto the square/space identified using the player's crosshairs.
  2. Each time the mouse button is pressed, one to two resource items (dependent on the type) will be placed onto the selected block, which will add to a stack.
  3. When a stack is complete (this number varies based on resource), and a player has additional items to add, a new stack will be created above the existing (filled) stack.

To remove resources from stacks

Press the Right mouse button while aiming white crosshairs to select the stack. One to two items will be removed (depending on the item type).
