Onion crops consume 35 P (phosphorus) over 7 stages of growth. During stages 2-6, onion crops feed bees and butterflies. Onion crops take 1.85 months to mature, assuming a growth rate near 100%. Low moisture or nutrient levels can significantly delay maturation.

Each block of mature onion crops will yield 10-14 onions and 1-2 seed packets. Harvesting at stage 6 will yield 2-4 onions, with a 99% chance of getting 1 seed packet. Harvesting before stage 6 has a 0% chance of getting any onions, and a 70% chance of getting 1 seed packet.

Usage

Food

Onions provide 100 vegetable satiety when eaten raw. Onions count as a vegetable for cooking and can be used in meat stew, vegetable stew, soups and porridges. They stay fresh 28 days if you keep them in your inventory. After that, it takes 5 days for them to turn into rot . A full stack of 64 onions will turn into 32 rot. Onions are preserved longer when stored in a storage vessel in a cellar . They can be further preserved through pickling .

Onions can be put in a large trough to breed livestock. Pigs and sheep consider carrots a treat.

Dye

Onions are also used in dye making to create yellow dye and orange dye.

Notes

• Jan-Jun, if the temperature is 16-23°C at 4pm, it’s good for planting onion seeds.
• Onions are a decent crop to focus on for a balanced diet. They use a different nutrient than flax and most grains, but can't tolerance much cold. Also, you can replant without crop rotation, since bonemeal is easy to obtain in great quantity.
