Natural Generation
Onions can be found growing in the world.
Harvesting
Farmed onions take 2.47 months (22.2 days) to grow at default 9 day per month settings. Naturally occurring or player farmed onion crops mature at growth stage 7. Break the crop using left mouse button with an empty hand, knife or scythe to harvest. When fully mature, crops yield multiple onions and at least one seed when harvested. Harvesting immature plants yields fewer onions and may not provide a seed.
Usage
Onions may be eaten without cooking and can be used as an advanced cooking ingredient in:
- Meat Stew (1-2)
- Vegetable Stew (1-4)
- Soup (1-3)
- Porridge (1-2)
Storage
Once harvested, onions may be stored in the inventory or stationary containers.
Decay and Preservation Methods
Onions are perishable food. In your inventory, they keep their freshness for 28 days and take 5 days to completely rot. You will then get 1 rot for a stack of 2 onions.
Even when appropriately stored in storage vessel within a cellar, vegetables decay. Pickling methods should be applied to preserve vegetables.
