Special: The pickaxe is the primary tool used in miningores, but the prospector's pick or propick is the primary tool used to detect/locate ore deposits.
To prospect: press the left mouse button with the propick in an active hotbar slot to "hit" the rock. When the block breaks, a sample is taken. A detailed description of the prospecting process is available on the mining page.
