First create a [[forge]]. You need this to heat the ingots. You need to fill the forge with coal. Then light the coal with a torch. Place the ingots on the lit coal and let them heat up. Once heated, right click to grab one and head on over to your anvil. Place the hot ingot on the anvil and you will see a tool recipe menu pop up. Select which tool you would like to smith. Then select your hammer. Press the 'F' key to change smithing modes. Each mode allows you to hammer the hot metal in one direction or another. The recipe grid will show you which way you need to hammer.
