Dyes must be created in a [[barrel]]. All dyes require a diluted solution of alum, chromite or cassiterite as a fixing solution, plus an additional item that determines the color of the dye. One portion of dye can be made from either:

* 4 diluted alum solution

* 3 portions of diluted chromite solution

* 2 portions of diluted cassiterite

plus one dye item. There are some notable exceptions: gray dye is created by doubling the proportion of fixing solution to dye item, and therefore requires 8 diluted alum, 6 diluted chromite or 4 diluted cassiterite per dye item. Orange dye is made using 2L of yellow dye to 4 portions of onion.
