'''Axes''' are currently used to chop down trees, and to break wood-type blocks quicker. Flint hatchets can be created early in game by knapping flint before metalworking has been established. Metal axes can be cast into molds, or created at an anvil; casted axes require 100 units of liquid metal to create, while forged axes require 200 units of metal.

<!--T:14-->
The '''Axe''' is the primary tool used to break wood-type blocks.

After creating an axe head, simply put it on top of a stick to craft the axe. To create a flint axe head, shift+right-click on the ground with two flint items in your hand, and select the flint hatchet head. Then, click all of the highlighted voxels to create a basic flint hatchet head.

=== Purchasing === <!--T:24-->
<!--T:25-->
You can purchase axes from {{ll|Trading|Survival Goods Traders}}. They sell them sometimes:
* Tin-bronze axe: for an average price of 9 {{ll|rusty gear|rusty gears}}.
* Bismuth-bronze axe: for an average price of 10 {{ll|rusty gear|rusty gears}}.
* Black bronze axe: for an average price of 11 {{ll|rusty gear|rusty gears}}.
== Usage == <!--T:6-->
<!--T:19-->
The axe is most efficient when used to {{Breaking|break}} wood blocks such as {{ll|trees|trees}}, logs, {{ll|planks|planks}}, fences, gates and items including wooden building components.
=== Harvesting === <!--T:7-->
<!--T:20-->
{{Breaking|Breaking}} a tree with an axe will break many blocks at once. The targeted block will take a long time to break and when it does break, the tree will break with it. The max number of blocks it breaks is limited by the remaining durability of the axe. Cutting the whole tree at once still applies the same amount of damage to the axe as if each block was broken individually.
<!--T:34-->
Tree felling time is also based on wood type; hardwoods take 30% longer; tropical hardwoods longer still.
<!--T:35-->
Purpleheart requires at least a copper/scrap axe to fell; ebony requires at least a bronze axe.
</translate>
{{Protip
|Icon=Sapling-oak.png
|<translate><!--T:73--> Cutting the whole tree is much faster if you break all the leaves first! This also drops many more tree seeds and sticks.</translate>
}}
<translate>
=== Crafting === <!--T:9-->
<!--T:21-->
{{ll|Firewood|Firewood}} is crafted using the axe. When the axe is being used as a crafting tool, each time the recipe is crafted the tool will lose durability.
===Selling=== <!--T:26-->
<!--T:27-->
You can sell the axes you craft to {{ll|Trading|Building Materials Traders}}. They purchase sometimes:
* Tin-bronze axe: for an average price of 4 {{ll|rusty gear|rusty gears}}.
* Bismuth-bronze axe: for an average price of 5 {{ll|rusty gear|rusty gears}}.
* Black bronze axe: for an average price of 6 {{ll|rusty gear|rusty gears}}.
==Storage== <!--T:11-->
<!--T:22-->
Axes can be {{SneakClick|placed}} against a wall, stored in {{ll|Containers|containers}} and placed on {{ll|tool rack|tool racks}}.

*Black bronze axes as of version 1.5.0.1 do not have an attack value listed.
