Many crafting recipes use the crafting grid, similarly to Minecraft, except the 3x3 grid is always in the inventory and not a separate block. The other recipes that are not done through the grid are done with more immersive methods, smithing and clay forming are the best examples.

Are made via the clay forming interface.  The cost in clay can depend on if you make mistakes or not, but

assuming no voxels are wasted, the cost of the items are as follows:

Prospecting Pick-13, Pick/Sword/Hammer/Hoe-12, Axe/Shovel-11
<!--T:3-->
* Stone tools are made through knapping obsidian, flint, chert, or igneous rocks: basalt, andesite, granite, or peridotite.
* Metal tools are made through pouring ore into clay molds, or smithing ingots on an anvil.  Some items cannot be cast and must be smithed.  Additionally, some ores cannot be melted enough to cast.
Both methods will give you a tool head that you need to combine with a handle to become useful.
See the {{ll|Survival Guide - Your first day|Survival starter guide}} as well.

Basic torches are crafted with a stick and 2 dry grass. You can light them by placing them into a lit firepit, or place them and light them with a Firestarter or torch, but they only last for a limited time when placed. Other light sources are permanent.
