There are many varieties of trees that spawn in the world including acacia, birch, kapok, maple, pine and oak.
<!--T:234-->
In Vintage Story, you will encounter many types of trees. They will offer you several useful items from the very beginning of the game.

Propagation
<!--T:235-->
Trees and bamboo are propagated by planting saplings. When placed on any soil the sapling will take anywhere between 5 and 8 days to grow into a tree or bamboo. When trees/bamboo are harvested, saplings drop rarely. To acquire more saplings, break the leaves manually before you cut the tree/bamboo.

Special Cases
__TOC__
Some tree variants are spawned during world creation such as large kapok, and old kapok. These larger variants of trees cannot be regrown.

Harvesting
== Natural generation == <!--T:1-->
Trees are best harvested using an axe. See that page for more detail about its use.

Usage
<!--T:34-->
When harvested, trees drop logs, sticks, and saplings. Breaking leaves with shears harvests foliage blocks in a 3 X 3 area. Use of this tool provides higher yields of sticks for handles in tool making and saplings for tree propagation.
Certain trees are native to certain climates. Bamboo, acacia, kapok, ebony, and purpleheart can be found near the equator, but not in very cold regions. Larch can be found in cold regions, or high in the mountains.
Fuel
</translate>
All wood items can be used as fuel and logs will burn for different lengths of time, depending on the wood type.

<!--T:240-->
There are many varieties of trees that spawn in the world. Some of these trees can naturally spawn in massive variants, such as big oaks. Keep in mind that these large variants cannot be replanted, as they only spawn in naturally (with the exception of redwood). Planting 2x2 saplings will not create bigger variants of the normal trees.

Crafting
</translate>
Logs can be converted into boards using a saw or firewood using an axe in the crafting grid.

Special Use Drops
=== Propagation === <!--T:92-->
Pine: Trees generate resin that can be harvested (right mouse button) and used as an essential component in Wood Lamellar Armor. Pine Trees are currently the only trees that yield this product.

Special Use Logs
<!--T:3-->
Oak: When added to water is used to make tannin, an essential component in leather working. Oak logs are currently the only logs that can be used for this process.
Trees and bamboo are propagated by planting seeds. When placed on any soil, the seed will take 1 day to grow into a sapling, and anywhere between 5 and 28 days to grow into a tree or bamboo provided weather conditions are ideal. When trees/bamboo are harvested, seeds drop rarely. To acquire more seeds, break the leaves manually before cutting the tree/bamboo. Survival has a default setting of 2x growth duration for trees.

Bamboo
</translate>
Bamboo is a special subclass of tree. When harvested, bamboo drops bamboo stakes and saplings. Bamboo stakes may be crafted into bamboo planks. Both stakes and blocks can be burned as fuel in a firepit.

Natural generation

Certain trees are native to certain climates. Bamboo, acacia, kapok, ebony, and purpleheart can be found near the equator, but not in very cold regions. Larch can be found in cold regions, or high in the mountains.

Propagation

Trees and bamboo are propagated by planting seeds. When placed on any soil , the seed will take 1 day to grow into a sapling, and anywhere between 5 and 28 days to grow into a tree or bamboo provided weather conditions are ideal. When trees/bamboo are harvested, seeds drop rarely. To acquire more seeds, break the leaves manually before cutting the tree/bamboo. Survival has a default setting of 2x growth duration for trees.
