Sphalerite is a metal ore that yields Zinc when processed.
Zinc is primarily used to create alloys such as Brass (with copper) and Bismuth Bronze (with copper and bismuth).
Obtaining
Sphalerite deposits can be found underground as either a shallow surface deposit or a deep vein. The ore generates in nearly all rock layers, with the exception of Bauxite.
Unlike other ores, sphalerite is generally found at relatively shallow depths and does not generate on the surface. Its texture can be difficult to distinguish from surrounding rocks like granite, making it challenging to spot without a Prospecting Pick.
Usage
Once mined, raw sphalerite ore blocks can be broken down into nuggets. These nuggets can then be smelted in a Crucible to produce Zinc Ingots.
- Zinc Ingots: On their own, Zinc Ingots can be smithed into Zinc Plates for use in Archimedes Screws.
- Alloys: Sphalerite nuggets can be mixed with various metals in a crucible to be smelted into ingots of alloys.
| Alloy | Smelting Temperature | Zinc % | Other Metal % |
| Bismuth Bronze | 850°C | 20-30% | Copper: 50-70% Bismuth: 10-20% |
| Brass | 920°C | 30-40% | Copper: 60-70% |
