Shears harvest the targeted leaf block as well as all leaf blocks in a 3 x 3 x 3 cube centered on the targeted block and allows players to gather many sticks or saplings. For more information on saplings, see [[trees]].

=== Harvesting ===

To harvest leaf blocks: place the tool in an active hotbar slot and press or hold left mouse button until the block breaks and the resources drop.
All tools may be used as weapons, including the shears.

Attacking a mob (melee combat): place the tool in an active hotbar slot and press or hold left mouse button to strike the target.
*''Note: Though all tools may be used as weapons, the shears has no known attack tier. Values used in the table above reflect only the "metal tier".''

=== Crafting ===

The shears is not used in any current game crafting.

==Storage==
<!--T:34-->
Tools are items commonly used by players and are generally equipped in the hotbar. Shears do not stack in inventory or when placed in containers. The [[containers#stationary container|tool rack]] is a specialized wall mounted storage container that allows players to store tools. Tool racks are made of 6 sticks in the crafting grid and once placed, can store 4 tools each. Tools are placed from an active hotbar slot and removed using the right mouse button to an empty space in the hotbar.
Shears can be {{SneakClick|placed}} against a wall, stored in {{ll|Containers|containers}} and placed on {{ll|tool rack|tool racks}}.

Usage

Harvesting

Using shears allows players to gather sticks and tree seeds from trees . Shears break leaf blocks in a 3 block wide cube, centered on a targeted block.

  • Note: The shears have no mining speed variant. The metal used to create the item affects durability, but has no effect on the rate of harvest.

Crafting

Shears are sometimes used in grid-based crafting in order to create certain items, especially those that need to be cut. The shears are not consumed in the process but loose some durability, and can be removed from the grid after crafting. If the player does not remove the shears from the crafting grid when closing the crafting menu, the shears will go to the first available empty hotbar or inventory slot, in that order.

The shears can be used as an alternative to a knife to craft:

And they are necessary to craft:

Combat

All tools may be used as weapons, including the shears.

Storage
