'''Shears''' are a type of tool in Vintage Story that allow players to break leaves quicker. In addition to this, they also break surrounding leaves at the same time, in a 3x3x3 cube centered on the block that the player is breaking. They can be very useful for a player wishing to gather many sticks or saplings at once. However, shears cannot be cast into a clay mold. Instead, they have to be forged at an anvil, requiring 100 units of workable metal, if no mistakes are made in the process.


Currently, all shears break leaves at the same speed, which is significantly faster than by hand.

Usage

Harvesting

Using shears allows players to gather sticks and tree seeds from trees . Shears break leaf blocks in a 3 block wide cube, centered on a targeted block.

  • Note: The shears have no mining speed variant. The metal used to create the item affects durability, but has no effect on the rate of harvest.

Crafting

Shears are sometimes used in grid-based crafting in order to create certain items, especially those that need to be cut. The shears are not consumed in the process but loose some durability, and can be removed from the grid after crafting. If the player does not remove the shears from the crafting grid when closing the crafting menu, the shears will go to the first available empty hotbar or inventory slot, in that order.
