Shears are a tool that allows players to break leaves faster. Using shears on leaves breaks not only the leaf block the shears were used on, but also all others in a 3 x 3 x 3 cube centered on the targeted block. They can be very useful for a player wishing to gather many sticks or saplings at once. There are no ceramic molds for shears so they must be made on an anvil.

Shears are used to harvest multiple leaf blocks from trees simultaneously.

__TOC__
There are several variants that you can craft. Each variant has a different durability and attack power. Shears can be made from metal via smithing. Shears are one of the few tools where the tool is created directly rather than by smithing a head and then adding a handle.
Creation
The raw material used to create the tool head determines the crafting process required:
* Knapping: Stone shears cannot be crafted by knapping.
* Casting: Shears cannot be crafted by casting.
* Smithing: Iron, Bronze alloy and copper shears can be made by smithing, which requires 1 ingot.
** Note: Shears can also be smithed from gold and silver.

Shears.png

Shears are used to harvest multiple leaf blocks from trees simultaneously.

Creation

The raw material used to create the tool head determines the crafting process required:

  • Knapping: Stone shears cannot be crafted by knapping.
  • Casting: Shears cannot be crafted by casting.
  • Smithing: Iron, Bronze alloy and copper shears can be made by smithing, which requires 1 ingot.
    • Note: Shears can also be smithed from gold and silver.

Table: Tool Tiers

Material Durability Material Tier Mining Speed (Leaf) Attack Power (HP) Attack Tier
Copper 1000 2 x 1.0 2
Tin Bronze 1750 3 x 1.5 3
Bismuth Bronze 2000 3 x 1.0 3
Black Bronze 2250 3 x 2.5 3
Iron 3800 4 x 3.0 4
Gold 750 2 x 1.0 2
Silver 750 2 x 1.0 2

Usage

Shears harvest the targeted leaf block as well as all leaf blocks in a 3 x 3 x 3 cube centered on the targeted block and allows players to gather many sticks or saplings. For more information on saplings, see trees.

Harvesting

  • To harvest leaf blocks: place the tool in an active hotbar slot and press or hold left mouse button until the block breaks and the resources drop.

Combat

Attacking a mob (melee combat): place the tool in an active hotbar slot and press or hold left mouse button to strike the target.

  • Note: though all tools may be used as weapons, the shears has no known attack tier. Values used in the table above reflect only the "metal tier".

Crafting

The shears is not used in grid crafting.

Storage

Tools are items commonly used by players and are generally equipped in the hotbar. Shears do not stack in inventory or when placed in containers. The tool rack is a specialized wall mounted storage container that allows players to store tools. Tool racks are made of 6 sticks in the drafting grid and once placed, can store 4 tools each. Tools are placed from an active hotbar slot and removed using the right mouse button to an empty space in the hotbar.
