A sail is a component of a windmill used to harness wind and convert it into Mechanical Power. This power is then used to automate a number of mechanical processes including grinding, pulverizing and hammering.

Sails are constructed in sets with one set having four sails (one sail for each windmill blade).

A set of sails requires

The maximum number of sets of sails per windmill is five.

Sails 1 set 2 sets 3 sets 4 sets max 5 sets
Sticks 6 12 18 24 30
Linen 4 8 12 16 20

Sails are attached directly to the rotor. See Windmill for assembly. Each set of sails will increase the power output by 25% and require one full block clearance (per set). If the sails do not have space to move freely, they will break and fall to the ground below.

Sets of sails require a large amount of flax fiber. One set of sails requires 64 flax fibers (4 fibers x 4 twine x 4 linen) and to put the maximum of five sets of sails on a windmill, 320 flax fibers would be needed. Collecting and growing Flax as early as possible will help minimize the delay in getting to mechanized power.
