Rusty gears is the in-game money, it's mainly used for trading with traders or in multiplayer players may use it as standard exchange value.

Looting

They can be found in Ruins, both inside chest, Cracked_Vessel or in the ground.

Storage

Rusty Gears can be technically stack to 1000. While they can be place in the ground, it is much preferable to put them in storage such as chest or crates.
