There are different types of solid rock the player can find in the game. All rock requires at least a tier two (copper) pick or higher to mine. When mined, solid rock blocks drops stones, which can be used to knap various tool heads or create decorative blocks such as cobblestone and stone path blocks. Currently, they do not obey gravity. Solid rock can be collected by mining around the connected faces of the block, such that all six faces of the block cube are adjacent to air. This process is called "relieving" stone, and is used to collect stone blocks for crafting items including stone bricks and the quern.

Natural Generation

Twenty types of stone variants may exist in the world, and are created during world generation. The appearance of each block indicates the type, which dictates its uses and which ores may be found in the stone.

Stone Types

Different types of stone are found in different places in the world and vary based on geological layers. Stone types that exist include Andesite, Basalt, Bauxite, Chalk, Chert, Claystone, Conglomerate, Granite, Halite, Kimberlite, Limestone, Marble, Obsidian, Peridotite, Phyllite, Sandstone, Scoria, Shale, Slate, Suevite and Tuff. Each of the 20 types of stone appears as a different color, which offers a wide range of construction material.

Stone Variants

Rock/Stone does not have a grass coverage variant.

Harvesting

All stone requires a pickaxe to mine. Left click on the block using the pickaxe to break/harvest the block. When mined, solid rock blocks drops small stones. Solid stone blocks can be collected through a process called "relieving". To relieve a stone block, break the stone blocks connected to each face of the stone block, such that all six faces of the cube you wish to harvest are adjacent to air. Both small stones and Stone blocks stack to 64, and may be carried in player inventory or stored in stationary containers. Currently, stones do not obey gravity.

Uses

Stone Blocks

The quern may only be created from stone blocks including andesite, basalt, granite or peridotite. Stone blocks are used to craft building materials including stone bricks. A polished variant can be created using a hammer and chisel in the crafting grid, and polished stone may also be split to create slabs.

Small Stones

Stone tools made by knapping small stones can only be created from basalt, granite, peridotite, or obsidian. Some types of small stones can be used to create construction materials including cobblestone blocks and stone path blocks. It is important to note that some types of stone cannot be used to create cobblestone or stone bricks, including: Bauxite, Halite, Kimberlite, Marble, Obsidian, Scoria, Suevite and Tuff.

Special Use Small Stones

Some small stones can be converted to useful powders by crushing with a hammer in the crafting grid, or grinding in the quern.

 • Chalk and Limestone small stone powder creates lime for leather working.
 • Halite small stone powder creates salt for food preservation.
 • Chalk small stone powder creates chalk powder/lime. When heated, produces quicklime used in creating quartz or plaster blocks.
