Every base metal and alloy placed on the ground

Many items in the game are made of metal including tools, weapons, armor, and lanterns. There are eleven base metals, which can be found in raw ore form. Eight of the base metals have a current use, while three base metals have no current use. Base metals with melting points at or below 1300°C can be melted in a crucible and cast into ingots or used to create alloys when combined in specific ratios. Metal with melting temperatures higher than 1300°C (iron) requires a bloomery to smelt and form ingots.

Copper is very likely to be the first metal most players obtain. It can be found in small stone surface deposits that provide smeltable ore nuggets when broken, thus a hammer isn't needed. Copper nuggets can also be obtained by panning. A high temperature fuel such as charcoal is needed to smelt copper, which can be used to make every type of weapon, tool, and armor via the casting and smithing mechanics. Copper is also used as a component in all alloys currently included in VS, including: brass, tin bronze, black bronze, bismuth bronze, and molybdochalkos.

Gold is a rare metal that is used to make the alloy black bronze. The base metal can be used to craft lanterns and armor. Gold nuggets can sometimes be obtained by panning

Silver

Silver is a rare metal that is used to make the alloy black bronze. The base metal can be used to craft lanterns and armor. Silver nuggets can sometimes be obtained by panning

Tin

Tin is used as a component of the alloy Tin Bronze. The base metal has no current use.

Zinc

Zinc is used as a component of the alloys brass and bismuth bronze. The base metal has no current use. Zinc in the form of sphalerite nuggets can sometimes be obtained by panning

Bismuth

Bismuth is used as a component of the alloy bismuth bronze The base metal can be used to make lanterns, but not tools.

Lead

Lead is used as a component of the alloy molybdochalkos. The base metal is the only metal that can be worked when cold, but this has no use as the only item created from lead ingots are plates, which are not used to craft anything.

Iron

Iron is the best metal currently in the game. Unlike copper, it can't be found on the ground. It does appear in rocks and requires a tier 3 (Bronze) pickaxe to mine. A bronze anvil is also needed to work iron. Due to the high melting temperature, Iron can only be smelted in a bloomery. Iron is used to create the highest tier tools and armor.

Alloys

Alloys are created using the casting mechanic. For more information on alloys, see the casting page.
