A knife is useful for cutting tallgrass. It's very important to craft a knife as soon as possible to cut tallgrass in order to build a firepit. Knives are also useful early game weapons if you find yourself face to face with a wolf while expoloring the world.

*To butcher animals: place the tool in an active hotbar slot and {{SneakClick|harvest}} a corpse until the butchering interface opens, which indicates that butchering is complete. The small pop-up window contains animal products and resources including meat, [[bone|bones]], [[fat]] and raw hides. Products can be removed from this window and transferred to player inventory.
