Bear hide armor is a type of hide armor made of ropes, bones and hide from any species of bear , that can be made as early as the stone age.

Creation

This armor requires pelt (oiled hides) rather than leather (tanned hides). A full set requires 2 bear hides, including 1 head. Large hides cannot be used; they must be huge, specifically from bears.

  1. Oil the raw hide(s), and/or salted hides.
    1. Let the oiled hides cure .
    2. Optional: Remove the head, with a knife in the crafting grid.
  2. Combine rope , bones , and pelt in the crafting grid, placed as shown in the Handbook's pages for hide body armor / leg armor / helmet.

The black bear pelts in the recipes below can be replaced with the pelt of any bear desired.

History

  • Bear hide armor was teased 7 Apr 2025 in the devlog channel of the Discord server: "Soon™️ you'll be able to have your revenge."[2]
  • It was added in version 1.21.0-pre.1 - Story Chapter 2 Redux: "A new craftable trophy armor with average stats."[3]

Notes

The recipes for body armor and leg armor require huge pelts. Those can only be obtained from bears. It's unclear whether non-species-specific huge pelts will be removed from the game.
