Hammers are tools used to work ingots on an Anvil when Smithing. They are also used for chisel, crushing ore, and for numerous recipes in the crafting grid.

The raw material used to create the tool head determines the crafting process required:
* Knapping: Stone hammers cannot be crafted by knapping.
* Casting: Copper and Bronze alloy hammers can be made by casting, which requires 100 metal units.
* Smithing: Iron, Bronze alloy and copper hammers can be made by smithing, which requires 1 ingot.
** Note: Hammers can also be smithed from the rare base metals gold and silver.

== Usage == <!--T:5-->
<!--T:22-->
The hammer is the primary tool used in the crafting method smithing. Pressing the Left Mouse button "hits" the metal item on an anvil and changes the shape and location of voxels in the metal ingot based on the selected tool mode.
===Smithing Hammer Modes=== <!--T:7-->
<!--T:23-->
Press 'F' with a hammer in the active hand to view and change tool modes.
<!--T:24-->
*Heavy Hit
:When used on the bottom layer: No effect.
:When used on the upper layers: If near the edge, it will move voxels the the lower layer, i.e. flatten the work item. Otherwise it will spread apart the voxels.
<!--T:8-->
*Upset (Up, Left, Down, Right)
:When used on the bottom layer: Move voxels to the upper layer, only possible at the edges of a work item.
:When used on upper layers: Move voxels horizontally or down by a layer if its at the edge.
<!--T:9-->
*Split
:Irrevocably removes one voxel.

=== Harvesting === <!--T:10-->
The hammer is the primary tool used in smithing metal ingots on an anvil. Pressing the Left Mouse button "hits" the metal item on the anvil and changes the shape of the metal ingot depending on the tool mode currently selected.

Smithing Hammer Modes
<!--T:25-->
Press 'F' with a hammer in the active hand to view and change tool modes.
Hammers are not used to harvest materials, but are used to crush chunks of stone containing ores (mined with a pickaxe) and obtain smeltable nuggets.
* Spread: (sunburst) spreads metal in all directions over three blocks,
* Single Direction: (arrow icons) 4 directional options move metal in the direction indicated by the arrows
* Cut: (wedge icon) removes a voxel of metal.

Grid Crafting
===Selling=== <!--T:27-->
The hammer is used to crush stones and mineral ores to powders in the crafting grid (grid crafting). Place the hammer in the grid crafting slot above the item to be crushed. Removing the (product) from the output slot of the grid uses the tool. When complete, remove the tool from the grid, or close the interface by pressing 'E' to replace the tool into the inventory or hotbar.

<!--T:28-->
You can sell the hammers you craft to Trading. They purchase sometimes:
* Tin-bronze hammer: for an average price of 4 rusty gear.
* Bismuth-bronze hammer: for an average price of 5 rusty gear.
* Black bronze hammer: for an average price of 6 rusty gear.

===Chiseling blocks=== <!--T:29-->

<!--T:30-->
Place the hammer in the left hand and the chisel in the right hand. See the chisel page for more informations.

=== Crafting === <!--T:12-->

<!--T:31-->
Place the hammer in the crafting grid slot above the item to be crushed. When using the hammer and chisel, generally the hammer is placed above the chisel, and the material to be processed is placed below the chisel. Removing the (product) from the output slot of the grid uses the tool(s). When complete, remove the tool from the grid, or close the interface by pressing 'E' to replace the tool into an available space in the inventory or hotbar. (If a slot is not available, pressing 'E' will discard the item(s) on the ground.)

<!--T:13-->
* The hammer is used to
**Crush limestone into lime.
**Crush chunks of rock containing ore to obtain metal nuggets.

<!--T:14-->
* The hammer + chisel is used to craft:
**polished rock, polished slabs and stone bricks. See the Stone Blocks page for more information.

Storage
<!--T:15-->
Tools are items commonly used by players and are generally equipped in the hotbar. Hammers do not stack in inventory or when placed in containers. The tool rack is a specialized wall mounted storage container that allows players to store tools. Tool racks are made of 6 sticks in the drafting grid and once placed, can store 4 tools each. Tools are placed from an active hotbar slot and removed using the right mouse button to an empty space in the hotbar.
* The hammer + chisel + saw is used to craft:
** Gears, axles and rotors in the crafting grid. See the mechanical power page for more information.

==Storage== <!--T:16-->

<!--T:32-->
Hammers can be placed against a wall, stored in Containers and placed on tool rack.
