Gemstone: Difference between revisions

There are various gemstones throughout Vintage Story, some of which can be used directly in crafting. Gemstones are special minerals that can be put into a [[Bloomery]] to form [[Glass]].

Quartz is a very common mineral that can be found in large deposits at nearly all heights. It sometimes houses [[gold]] and [[silver]], and is used in the creation of both [[Lantern|Lanterns]] and [[Glass]]. While Mining quartz ore blocks, players will receive Quartz Chunks as well as a few bits of Clear Quartz. The latter can be used to craft [[Quartz Glass]] and Lanterns without the need to smelt the bits in a [[bloomery]], unlike the Quartz Chunks which can only be processed into clear glass through smelting.

Quartz is found in almost every rock type except [[bauxite]], [[kimberlite]], [[suevite]], and [[marble]].

Olivine is a mineral primarily found underground and is used in the creation of [[Glass|Green Glass]].

Olivine is only found in [[peridotite]].

Vugs describe small "geode" type structures that can generate inside of quartz & olivine veins. Inside of them are crystals, ranging in size from small to large, which can be broken down into item crystals (done by crafting the block crystals with a hammer) to be used in [[Glass#Crafting_Clear_Glass_and_Colored_Variants|Glassmaking]]. Vugs are the only way to make [[Glass|Pink Glass]] and [[Glass|Smoky Glass]], as they are the only source of [[Gemstone#Rose_Quartz|Rose Quartz]] and [[Gemstone#Smoky_Quartz|Smoky Quartz]].

Milky Quartz crystals can be broken into [[Gemstone#Quartz|Clear Quartz]] and used to make [[Glass#Crafting_Quartz_Glass|Quartz Glass]].
