When planting a fruit tree cutting directly in the ground, each of the cuttings has a 25% chance to take root. However, if they are planted outside of their temperature comfort zone, where winter temperatures fall below their die-below temperature, they will not take root no matter what - or they might grow up only to die during the winter.
