Stationary Containers

Stationary containers can be transported when empty like any other block. They have to be placed to be filled and are then left in place. They cannot be transported with items inside.

Some items such as metal ingots, planks & firewood do not need to be stored in containers because they can be "stacked" on solid blocks. Fired Clay items (molds, bowls, pots) may be placed on solid blocks.

Food Storage Containers

Most food storage containers fall into the class of stationary containers and can only be transported when empty. They must be placed to be filled. Most food storage containers cannot be transported with items inside, with the exception of the Crock.

[[]]Crock (transportable) - Made by clay forming, must be fired before use and holds 4 meal portions, but may also be used to store cooked foods. To seal the crock for long-term storage, place the filled crock into the crafting grid with a lump of fat. The crock may be used to transport food items in a player's inventory. To remove items from the crock, place the crock on a solid block and right click the crock with an empty bowl to remove a portion of food from the crock. If this action is performed on a sealed crock, the seal will be removed.
[[]]Storage Vessel (Stationary) - Made by clay forming, must be fired before use and has 12 slots for items.
[[]]Barrel (Stationary) - Made in the crafting grid using planks and sticks. A barrel holds a full stack of ONE type of item, and is used in processing as well as storage. Barrels are a special case container, because once filled and sealed, they cannot be moved until the process taking place inside the container is complete.
[[]]Shelf - (Stationary) Made in the crafting grid using planks and sticks. The shelf holds 8 crocks and may also hold other fired clay items including crucibles.

Portable Containers

Portable containers add additional inventory slots. The containers are placed in the four right hand slots in the hot bar, which are known as container slots. The additional inventory slots appear to the left of the crafting grid in the order in which the portable containers are placed in the container slots. You can place different types of carriable container in different container slots.

When you remove a container from the right hand container slots on the hot bar the contents are lost. Ensure you remove the contents of the container before you remove the container.
