Clay forming is a crafting method that allows the player to place tiny cubes of clay together to form a shape. This mechanic is similar to knapping stone tools, where voxels must be added or removed to create the desired object. Molds, pots and other items made by clay forming must be burned in a firepit before use. Burned items turn into a dark color and have "burned" added to their name.

Clay deposits are commonly found in temperate climates. Go ahead and dig up a bunch. You can also craft a flint shovel to speed up the process. There are different types of clay in the world, blue clay and fire clay. For tool molds and items like bowls and pots you can use any kind of clay, but the bloomery must be built with fire clay.

# Select clay in the active hand.
<!--T:42-->
# Aim the white crosshairs on a solid surface and Sneak + Right Mouse Button to open the clay forming menu and select the item to be crafted.
2. Look at the top of a solid block and (sneak) press Shift + Right Click to open the clay molding menu
# The clay forming grid will appear on the selected surface. To craft the chosen mold or item, the 'green' colored voxels must be filled using (right mouse button to add) and clay removed from any 'orange' colored voxels using (left mouse button to remove) to create each layer of the form. As each layer of the clay item is completed, the next layer will appear above the last.  It's helpful to sit on the ground (press 'G') while shaping clay.
<div style="margin-left: 25px;">
# When all layers of the item or mold are completed, the dialog box will disappear and the formed items will jump into the inventory of the player who placed or removed the last voxel of clay. Formed items can be placed on a surface before firing and picked up by "breaking" the item (left mouse button). Breaking will not destroy an item.

===Clay Tool Modes=== <!--T:4-->
3. Select the recipe, and you will see the clay molding grid appear. To craft the chosen mold or item, you must fill (right mouse click) in all the green marked voxels to place clay and remove (left mouse click) any clay blocks outside of the grid, which are marked orange. It's helpful to press 'G' to sit on the ground while crafting with clay molds. Also, you can press 'F' while crafting to access the tool menu that will allow you to change your "brush size" and place more or less blocks at a time (1x1, 2x2 and 3x3) with each click. The last option in the tool menu 'Copy' also allows you to quickly duplicate layers of clay. As you complete each layer of the clay item, the next layer will appear for you to complete.
To change the number of clay voxels added or removed (1x1, 2x2 and 3x3), press F and select the 'brush size' as indicated by the first three menu options. The last tool menu option,'Copy' allows a player to duplicate identical layers of clay voxels. When this menu option is selected, pressing the right mouse button adds a "layer" of clay matching the pattern of voxels directly underneath the current layer "under construction".

==Finishing Items and Molds== <!--T:5-->
Once the form is complete, the clay item must be baked in a firepit. Note: pottery items do not need to be placed in containers to complete this process. Place the raw clay item into the top left slot of the firepit, and add fuel to the bottom slot. The fuel selected to fire (burn) blue clay items must reach and maintain the firing temperature of 700 C until the process is completed. When fired, the finished item will transfer to the right side (output) of the firepit. Most clay items do not stack, so a finished "burned" item must be removed from the output slot of the firepit before a new clay item or mold is placed into the input slot. Finished items appear dark brown in color and have "burned" added to their name.

4. When the item is complete, the dialog boxes will disappear. You can then "break" the item to pick it up.
Many of the items made with clay are containers used in other types of crafting. Most baked items can be placed on the ground using (Sneak + RMB), and many pottery items can be picked up again with an empty hand (RMB).

===Using Items=== <!--T:7-->
The Claypot and Bowls are used in Food and cooking, while the watering can has a use in farming. Crocks and Storage Vessels are containers used in food preservation. Shingles can be used to construct clay shingles blocks, Flowerpots and Planters are containers used in decorating. Lamellae are used as components in crafting armor

5. Bake the clay item. Put your raw clay item into the top left slot of the firepit, and add fuel to the bottom slot. When completed, the item will transfer to the right side (output) of the firepit. Burned items turn into a dark color and have "burned" added to their name. Baked items can be placed on the ground via Shift + Right click, and many items can be picked up again using right click when your hand is empty.
