It is used for the melting of materials that require a very high temperature, such as glass and some metals that can not be melted in the firepit, most important ones are glass and iron.
<!--T:2-->
The '''bloomery''' is a functional block that can be used in the advanced stages of the game for smelting {{ll|glass|glass}} and {{ll|metal|metals}} like {{ll|iron|iron}} that require temperatures that cannot be obtained using the {{ll|firepit|firepit}}. It accepts most {{ll|coal|coal}} fuels, except brown coal (though it does accept {{ll|charcoal|charcoal}}), and boosts their temperature to be able to smelt quartz and iron ore.

==Making the Bloomery==

The Bloomery consists of two blocks: the Bloomery base and the chimney. These are the crafting recipes:

The complete bloomery consists of two blocks: the base and the chimney. The separate bloomery blocks must be assembled as a unit to use. Crafting both blocks requires a total of 12 {{ll|Fire Brick|fire bricks}} and is carried out in the player's crafting grid:

Once these two blocks are crafted, place the base on a solid surface, then place the chimney on the top of the base to complete the bloomery. A complete bloomery is shown at right.

Once you crafted these two blocks, you have to put the Bloomery base first, then the chimney on the top of it.

==Smelting in the Bloomery==
<!--T:34-->
The Bloomery does not have a GUI. You simply have to right click aiming at the Bloomery Base with the desidered item in your hand.

If now you aim at the Bloomery base, you will see in the description the items currently in the Bloomery:
<!--T:35-->
Smelting items in a bloomery requires high temperature {{ll|fuel|fuel}} and the desired item to process. A bloomery holds enough ore nuggets to make a maximum of 6 iron blooms (or other metal ingots) from 120 nuggets, or 12 glass blocks from 24 quartz, along with up to 6 pieces of fuel. The bloomery does not have to be completely filled to fire it, but both the ores to be smelted and the fuel to complete the smelting process must be added to start the process. The bloomery does not have a GUI. A player may read the description of the items currently in the bloomery by aiming the white crosshairs at the base block. The interface window should display any currently loaded contents when the block info GUI is enabled (press {{Keypress|B}}, by default).
# '''Loading the bloomery''': Aim at the bloomery base and {{Using|place}} the item, e.g. quartz, into the base. Be sure to add fuel as well, but only after the ores or quartz. {{SneakClick|Sneaking}} while loading items allows players to place multiple items (5 at a time) into the bloomery base.
# '''Firing the bloomery''': To ignite the bloomery and begin smelting, {{Using|use}} a {{ll|torch|torch}}/{{ll|fire starter|fire starter}} on the base. After a few seconds smoke particles should begin to rise from the chimney, and the hole in the base block will glow and spark.
# '''Harvesting the bloomery''': After 10 hours the smelting process is completed; break the bloomery blocks to gather the product. Breaking the bloomery does not require a tool and will drop some fire bricks to be used in crafting another bloomery.

<!--T:8-->
''Note: You will recover 6–12 bricks when breaking the bloomery, on average about 9. Expect to spend 3 bricks per bloomery run for large-scale operations.''

You can now ignite it with sneak + right click on the base with a Torch, and after some seconds you will see the smoke from the chimney, and the hole on the base will start to light up.
<!--T:9-->
{{Protip
|Icon=Grid Charcoal.png
|Since version 1.12.10, the bloomery automatically prevents you from inserting more fuel than necessary and refuses to ignite if there is not enough.
The bloomery accepts charcoal, black coal and anthracite - or generally any fuel that burns with at least 1200°C, for at least 30 seconds.
}}

==Game Versions== <!--T:10-->

Smelting will take around 10 ingame hours. Once completed the smelting, you have to break the Bloomery to gather your materials.
<!--T:36-->
* Before version 1.12, the bloomery produced iron ingots.
* Starting from version 1.12, the bloomery produces iron blooms, which must be heated and worked on an {{ll|anvil|anvil}} with a {{ll|hammer|hammer}} or {{ll|helve hammer|helve hammer}} to produce iron ingots.

Please note that breaking the Bloomery, you will obtain only 8 fire bricks, so you will need another 4 bricks for crafting both Bloomery base and chimney to start the process again.
