Bees are mobs that reside inside their hives (natural generation) or skeps (Player created) until disturbed. When a breaking a populated hive or skep, there is a chance that an angry swarm of bees will chase the player until they despawn (two minutes). Unfortunately you cannot defend yourself against aggressive bees making escape the only option.
When angered, Bees will attack anything nearby. Placing a decoy straw dummy near your apiary provides an alternative target for angry bees.
Harvesting
Bees are often farmed for their valuable Honeycomb. Honeycomb provides Wax used in crafting candles (for lanterns) or sealing food storage crocks, and Honey used in crafting poultices and cooking recipes. See Beekeeping for information regarding keeping bees.
