Bees are mobs that reside inside their hives or skep until disturbed. Upon breaking a populated hive or skep they have a chance to chase the player for a while or until they despawn after two minutes. Unfortunately you cannot defend yourself against aggressive bees making escape the only option.
Bees will attack anything nearby allowing for decoys such as a straw dummy useful to have near your apiary.
