To harvest a material: place the tool in an active hotbar slot and press or hold left mouse button until the block breaks and the block or resource drops.
* When chopping a [[trees|tree]]: aim the crosshairs at the lowest block to harvest the entire tree.

* Attacking a mob (melee combat): place the tool in an active hotbar slot and press or hold left mouse button to strike the target. Currently, all axes have a range of 2 meters.
{{Breaking|Breaking}} a tree with an axe will break many blocks at once. The targeted block will take a long time to break and when it does break, the tree will break with it. The max number of blocks it breaks is limited by the remaining durability of the axe. Cutting the whole tree at once still applies the same amount of damage to the axe as if each block was broken individually.

<!--T:34-->
Tree felling time is also based on wood type; hardwoods take 30% longer; tropical hardwoods longer still.

=== Crafting ===  <!--T:9-->
<!--T:35-->
Place the axe in the grid crafting slot above the material to be cut. Removing the (product) from the output slot of the grid uses the tool. When complete, remove the tool from the grid, or close the interface by pressing 'E' to replace the tool into an available space in the inventory or hotbar. (If a slot is not available, pressing 'E' will discard the item(s) on the ground)
Purpleheart requires at least a copper/scrap axe to fell; ebony requires at least a bronze axe.
