Alum is a mineral that can be crushed and diluted to create mordant to prepare cloth for dyeing.
Creation
Alum can be found as an ore in sedimentary rock (chalk, chert, conglomerate, limestone, claystone, sandstone and shale). Mining alum requires a copper pickaxe and produces 1.25* alum per block.
Alum chunks may also be purchased from a Commodities trader, at a cost of 8 alum for 4.5 - 7.5* gears.

Alum chunks must first be crushed in a pulverizer to produce crushed alum. The crushed alum is then mixed with water in a barrel to produce diluted alum, which is used as a mordant to prepare cloth for dyeing.
