Axes are currently used to chop down trees, and to break wood-type blocks quicker. Flint hatchets can be created early in game by knapping flint before metalworking has been established. Metal axes can be cast into molds, or created at an anvil; casted axes require 100 units of liquid metal to create, while forged axes require 200 units of metal.
Crafting
After creating an axe head, simply put it on top of a stick to craft the axe. To create a flint axe head, shift+right-click on the ground with two flint items in your hand, and select the flint hatchet head. Then, click all of the highlighted voxels to create a basic flint hatchet head.
