Traders naturally spawn at random locations on the surface of survival worlds and can be found in trader's carts which are made out of wooden planks, logs, and often decorated with a variety of other decorative blocks exclusive to these carts, like leather blocks. However, trader carts cannot be modified because they are claimed. Traders deal in a variety of different goods, which can be bought and sold using the game currency: [[rusty gears]].

Upon finding a trader, players may enter his cart or stand at the gate. To open the trading GUI, {{Using|talk}} to the trader. A trading window will appear that includes the items the trader is buying or selling. To buy items, select them from the selling side of the GUI and it will appear in the "trade" slots. To sell items, move the desired items from player inventory and place these into the slots. Upon completing the transaction, rusty gears will be automatically added or removed from player inventory.
