Wolves are dangerous to players as well as to some other animals.
Use the command /wgen pos climate to compare your current location with an entity's spawn conditions.
TriesPerChunk is 0.07 -- significantly higher than for bears (0.015).Adults are hostile and actively hunt players within 20 blocks. Wolves will chase players quite a distance. The puppies will flee from the player. An adult's attack animation can cause them to lunge forward a few blocks, but like other animals they will not actively leap over gaps or holes in the ground. They have a step height of 1.125 blocks, meaning they can only travers one block at a time vertically.
Hostility can be adjusted during world customization or via a worldconfig command.
Wolves will hunt:
When temperatures are below -5°C, wolves seek prey within 25 blocks instead of 20.[8]
Wolves can be bred and domesticated, but it is more challenging than most other domesticable animals due to their aggression and the fact that pregnancy, portions eaten, and readiness to mate will not be displayed on the animal's tooltip. Player-bred wolves will display their Generation, however.
Wolves cannot eat from troughs. To breed them, raw red meat or raw bushmeat must be thrown on the ground in their enclosure.
A pregnant female wolf will give birth to up to two pups at a time. Wolf colors are randomized upon achieving maturity and will not be inherited from the parents.
The only benefit to this process is that a Generation 10+ wolf will lose aggression towards players and can be pet. There is no practical application for domesticated wolves.
Butcher the animal using a knife in the active hand to harvest bushmeat , medium raw hide , bones and fat .
You can purchase a wolf pup from a Survival Goods Trader for an average price of 8 rusty gears . The pup is feral. If you release it, it will flee and will grow into a feral wolf. If kept enclosed, it can then be used for breeding.
A captured wild or player-bred wolf pup cannot be sold to traders. Only a purchased wolf pup item can be used as a trade good and sold for a profit at a different trader. Once a purchased wolf pup is released, it will convert from an item to an entity. It cannot be picked back up without a basket trap, and cannot ever be resold.
All purchased wolf pups will be male. In order to breed wolves, capturing a wild female will be required at minimum.
