Wild pigs spawn in grass , ferns, shallow snow, mushrooms, crops, loose sticks or stones and air, only on the world's surface at light levels 10 or above.

Behavior

As with other animals, the piglets tend to stay close to the sows and the sows tend to stay around the boars. Boars and sows will run away from approaching players, but will attack them if they get too close.[1] Piglets will just resort to flee on approach. Both boars and sows are intensely protective towards their offspring; they will become highly aggressive if there are piglets nearby. In spite of this, all pigs flee from the player if their health gets low.

Domestication and Breeding

After being rounded up in a pen, pigs can be fed using a large trough which can hold 8 portions of food. Sows will need to eat at least 10 portions before they’re ready to mate, and after 600 hours (25 in game days) they will bear a litter of 2 to 6 piglets (with each offspring having a 25% chance of being a boar and a 75% of being a sow). This is important to consider when breeding multiple sows simultaneously. After giving birth, sows will enter a cooldown period before they can breed again, which can last from 6 to 11 days. Once the piglets are born, it takes 168 hours (7 in game days) for them to become full adults.

From the 3rd generation, pigs will become passive (unless provoked) and piglets will lose their fear of the player.[2] The player can also instantly kill pigs with a cleaver , and boars and sows will no longer be aggressive around their offspring.

Food

Food that can be placed in the large trough to feed the Wild pigs:

Flax
Amaranth
Sunflower
Cassava
Soybean
Peanut
Turnip
Carrot
Onion
Cabbage
Pumpkin
Dry fruit mash

Pigs will also eat any food dropped on the ground, except for rice, parsnips, and dairy products. Pigs and hares can even eat poisonous mushrooms this way without taking damage, providing a good way to get rid of them.

Petting

You can pet wild pigs when they are generation 1 or higher. Petting causes the animal to stand peacefully.

Variants

Almost all pigs deal tier 1 damage except the large gray boar which deals tier 2 damage. Piglets cannot attack and have no damage value assigned internally.

The drops listed in the tables below apply to the adult versions of the respective species. Piglets will always drop 1 raw hide (small) and 1.5 (1 + 50% chance for another) red meat . Boars (adult males) will always drop their tusks.
