To make blasting powder, a tier 2 pickaxe (copper or higher) is required to mine sulfur , and a tier 3 pickaxe (bronze or higher) is required to mine black coal . Black coal can also be found in cracked vessels (ore) .

An undetonated ore blasting bomb

Ore blasting bombs can be placed on the ground and ignited with a torch using Shift + Right mouse button. After 4 seconds,[1] the bomb will create a spherical explosion that destroys ore and crystal blocks in a radius of 4 ± 1 blocks, and other blocks in a radius of 1 ± 1 blocks.

  • Crystals (e.g. amethyst ) have a 25% chance to drop intact blocks, and a 75% chance to drop 75-100% of their respective amount of crystal chunks.[4]
  • Other blocks have a 25% chance to drop.

The explosion also deals up to 8.2 damage to players and creatures within a radius of 10 blocks. If cave-ins are enabled, destroying rocks with explosions can cause the surrounding rocks to lose stability and potentially collapse. Support beams can be used to reinforce the cave ceiling outside of the destruction radius in advance, preventing a collapse from spreading further.

Multiple bombs can also be placed within range of each other to create a chain of explosions.

Selling

6 ore blasting bombs can be sold to the treasure hunter for 1-3 rusty gears . While in demand, this trade can be performed 3-7 times per reset.
