Obtaining

Animals

See also: Animal husbandry

After harvesting a dead animal with a knife and taking all of the items off its corpse, it will leave behind a bone carcass, with a size depending on the type of creature. Breaking the carcass will drop bones. Tiny and small carcasses will drop small bones, which are distinct from normal bones and can only be used for grinding in the quern . Medium carcasses will drop 3.5 - 4.5* bones, while large carcasses will drop 7 - 9* bones.

After processing a dead fish in ground storage with a knife , it will leave behind fish bones, which are functionally identical to small bones and can only be ground in the quern. The number of bones depends on the species of fish.

Most baby animals drop small bones. Foxes, hares, and raccoon babies drop tiny bones, and baby chickens do not leave behind any carcass.

Ruins

Bones can be obtained by panning bony soil. Bony soil is found under surface ruins . Some ruins also contain human carcasses that can be broken to obtain bones.

Usage

Fertilizer

Bones can be ground into bonemeal using a quern manually or by using mechanical power from a windmill or water wheel . Bonemeal is a phosphorous (P) fertilizer .

Crafting

Using a bone instead of a stick as a handle for a stone axe or knife will produce a tool with slightly higher durability. An axe will gain an additional 10 durability, and a knife will gain an additional 20 durability.
