Vegetables are edible plants in Vintage Story that can be eaten, either raw or cooked, for vegetable satiety. Many of them can also be farmed as a renewable source of food. A wide variety of vegetables are available, with different growing requirements and nutrition profiles.

Obtaining

Vegetables can be found growing wild in different biomes. Wild growing vegetables that are fully grown can be harvested by breaking them, which drops both the usable vegetable item as well as seeds for that vegetable. Vegetable seeds can also be found via trading, or as loot from certain cracked vessels.

Some vegetables cannot be grown using the game's farming mechanics, such as cooked cattail or papyrus roots. One vegetable, the olive, grows on an olive tree which mechanically behaves like a fruit tree, even though an olive is classified by the game as a vegetable for satiety and cooking recipes. Mushrooms have their own growing mechanics linked to growing conditions and cannot be farmed.

Usage

Most vegetables can be consumed raw for vegetable satiety. They may also be used in a cooking pot to create meals such as vegetable stews, meat stews or soups. They can also be preserved using salt in a barrel to produce pickled vegetables. Vegetables can also be used to create vegetable pies.
