Creation

  • Weak tannin is created by sealing 10L of water and 1 oak or acacia log in a barrel for 24 hours.
  • Strong tannin is created by sealing 10L of weak tannin and 1 oak or acacia log in a barrel for 24 hours.

A maximum of 50L of tannin can be created in a single barrel, but the materials must be in the correct ratio.

Usage

Leather working

Weak tannin is used in the third step of the leather working process. Scraped hide , which has been treated with limewater and scraped with a knife , is sealed in a barrel with weak tannin for 72 hours.

Size of hide Weak tannin (L)
Small 2
Medium 4
Large 6
Huge 10

Strong tannin is used in the fourth step. The prepared hide is sealed in a barrel with strong tannin for 108 hours. The final product is leather .

Size of hide Strong tannin (L) Leather
Small 2 1
Medium 4 2
Large 6 3
Huge 10 5
Tip:
Hides can still be processed with excess tannin in the barrel. If no text appears about the amount of prepared hide or leather that will be made, there is likely not enough tannin in the barrel.

Dye

Strong tannin functions as brown dye for cloth . Its natural affinity for binding to fibers makes it usable even on cloth that hasn’t been treated with a mordant . Strong tannin is one of two dyes, along with woad blue , that are accessible in the early-game before acquiring chromite , alum , or cassiterite .

Storage

Tannin can be stored in liquid containers , such as bowls , jugs , bucket , and barrels .
