Usage

Beekeeping

Main article: Beekeeping

Skeps are used to gain a steady supply of honeycomb , a valuable resource. Beekeeping is a relatively simple process, but can be difficult to start.

  1. First, you must locate a wild beehive. This is the most challenging part of beekeeping, as beehives are difficult to spot and are usually easier to find by listening for the quiet buzzing noise they emit. Beehives are found in temperate and warm climates with at least a moderate amount of rainfall. Forests are a good place to find them, but looking there can be dangerous due to the wolves and bears that are often present.
  2. To bring the bees home, place a skep near the beehive and plant flowers nearby. Planting more flowers will make the beehive swarm into the skep more quickly. The beehive Block info HUD will show about how long is left before the hive will swarm.
  3. Once the skep is populated (visible in the Block info HUD or by the skep's opening appearing filled), it can be picked up into an empty bag slot. You can place the skep down by selecting the bag slot with Ctrl + or the bag slot number.
  4. Skeps should be kept in an enclosed area to prevent raccoons from looting the honeycomb. Place flowers and other skeps nearby, and the populated skep will begin to swarm to the other skeps. Just like the wild beehive, more flowers will speed up the process.
  5. Once a skep is harvestable (visible in the Block info HUD or by the skep's opening gaining a golden honeycomb-like appearance), simply destroy the skep to collect its drops. Bees may attack you when you harvest the skep, but they can be distracted by a straw dummy . Each skep will provide 3 honeycomb and return 0 - 14* reeds of the type used to create it.
Tip:
Populated skeps must be held in a bag slot. Always make sure you leave at least one populated skep - if you don't have any left you'll have to go back to a wild beehive!

Selling

Agriculture traders will purchase skeps for a price of 1 - 2* rusty gears each.
