Various mushrooms in a forest.

Mushrooms are a type of vegetation and wild food , often found near or on trees . They can typically be found by foraging in forests and grassy plains.

Mushrooms provide 80 vegetable satiety. However, some mushrooms are poisonous and will damage the player when consumed.

Mushrooms can be harvested without a tool, but it is faster with a knife . Mushrooms cannot be replanted, but will slowly regrow in the area over time.

Obtaining mushrooms

Mushrooms spawn depending on the region's rainfall and temperature. Unlike other plants, mushroom spawns are also dictated by the presence of trees and the types of trees in the area. Mushrooms can grow on the sides of trees, underneath trees, or in open fields. Some mushrooms can grow under or on any kind of tree, while others will only grow near deciduous, coniferous or tropical trees.

Mushrooms do not have intermediate growth stages, and only appear fully-grown. Mushrooms can be harvested without a tool, but it is faster with a knife .

Usage

Mushrooms are a useful source of early-game food. They are easy to collect and abundant in certain climates. Since mushrooms are a type of vegetable, they last for much longer than foraged berries or raw meat .

Mushrooms have a few differences from vegetable crops :

  • Mushrooms provide only 80 vegetable satiety instead of 100 like most vegetables.
  • While mushrooms can be cooked in meals , they cannot be used for pies .
  • Mushrooms cannot be replanted, and will instead regrow over time in the area.
  • Mushrooms are not effective bait in traps even though they can be placed inside. Animals will still eat loose mushrooms on the ground, but they will not be harmed by poisonous mushrooms.
Tip:
Poisonous mushrooms are just as dangerous in meals as they are raw.
