The Fruitpress is a machine that separates fruit into juice and mash. This lowers the satiety of each fruit, but can extend the freshness of short-lived fruits. Juice can be consumed directly from a container or processed into alcohol . Mash can be used to feed animals .

Crafting

The fruitpress requires a metal rod , hammer , and chisel . The hammer and chisel may be any metal type, but the rod must be copper, bronze, iron, meteoric iron, or steel. Crafting a fruitpress costs 30 hammer durability and 40 chisel durability.

Hammer-copper.png Protip:
If your tools don't have enough durability, the fruitpress cannot be crafted.

Usage

Each liter of juice provides 200 satiety. Juice increases the shelf life of short-lived fruit such as berries at the cost of reducing satiety . Fermenting juice further decreases the satiety, but provides a shelf life of 140 days instead of 7; 20 times as long. Distilled alcohol loses even more satiety and all nutrition , but never rots.

Any fruit with less than 62.5 satiety will actually have more satiety when juiced, but due to the 50% gain from cooking a meal , only fruits with less than 41.7 satiety have more satiety juiced than cooked. Cranberries and saguaro are in the former category, while cherries and lychees are in the latter. Breadfruit's base satiety of 200 means it takes a massive 68.75% satiety loss from juicing (75% loss vs cooked), while the 80 satiety of all other fruits causes a 21.87% loss (47.9% loss vs cooked).

20 5 6.25
24 6 7.5

32 8 10
Each area must be interacted with separately while operating the press.

Adding fruit to the fruitpress creates wet fruit mash at a ratio of 4 fruit to 1 mash. Once the juice has been pressed out, it will become dry mash. Dry mash can be placed in a large trough as animal feed , or allowed to rot for composting . Each fruit produces 0.25* rot. Each dry mash produces 1 rot and 1L of juice produces 0.5* rot, so juicing 32 fruits can produce 13 total rot instead of 8. If this is desired, place the juice and mash in containers outside to increase the rot speed.

The fruitpress is operated by hand and cannot be automated. In addition to the fruit, a bucket or clay jug must be used to collect the juice. Note that the 3L capacity of a jug cannot collect all of the juice from the minimum batch of 5L. To prevent loss, release the screw before an excessive amount is squeezed. This can only be done if the screw is all the way down.

The fruitpress has 3 areas of interaction. As shown in the image:

  • Screw (1)
  • Input (2)
  • Output (3)

The fruitpress is always interacted with by using each region, either with the item to be placed inside, or an empty hand to operate it or remove an item.

  1. Place an empty bucket or jug in the output slot (3). A partially filled container will work if there is enough space and the same juice is being produced.
  2. Place the fruit in the input slot (2). Fruit is added in batches of 4. At least 16 fruit must be added before juicing, with a maximum of 32 fruit producing 10L of juice.
  3. Twist the screw (1) until fully pressed. If the juice will overfill the container, you can release it mid-press to avoid losing juice.
  4. Wait for the juice to fill the container. The Block info HUD will display the current progress.
  5. Release the screw. This can only be done if the screw was twisted all the way down.
  6. Collect the fruit mash from the input (2). If this doesn't work, ensure the screw was released.
  7. Collect the filled container from the output (3).

After this, the fruitpress is ready to be used again. It is recommended to store the juice in a barrel .
