  • Copper falx

Purchasing

  • You can purchase from a Survival Goods Trader for rusty gears ː
    • Tin bronze falx for an average price of 9 rusty gears.
    • Bismuth bronze falx for an average price of 10 rusty gears.
    • Black bronze falx for an average price of 11 rusty gears.

Usage

Combat

Attacking a mob (melee combat): place the falx in an active hotbar slot and press or hold Left mouse button to strike the target. This weapon has an attack range of 2.5 m.

When used against drifters, shivers, and bowtorns, the falx has a 25% chance per hit to extract one of the creature's item drops. This does not affect the total number of items that can be obtained.[1]

Selling

You can sell a falx that you have crafted to a Treasure Hunter Trader for rusty gears . Sometimes, they purchaseː

  • Tin bronze falx for an average price of 4 rusty gears.
  • Bismuth bronze falx for an average price of 5 rusty gears.
  • Black bronze falx for an average price of 6 rusty gears.

Storage

The falx can be placed against a wall, stored in containers , and placed on tool racks .

History

  • Prior to version 1.17.0 , this weapon was called the "sword" and had a straight blade.[2]
  • In previous versions, the falx was able to harvest wood and leaves with additional mining speed.

Notes

Some non-curved swords , like the Blackguard shortsword and the Forlorn Hope estoc , are also available in the game. They are members of the "blade" item type along with the falx.

Lore

A falx is a sickle-sword originating from the Black Sea region. The in-game falx has a distinctive guard over the hilt, characteristic of more modern swords rather than specimens from antiquity.

"Falx" can also refer to the inventor Jonas Falx. It is not known what role he played in the introduction of this weapon.

Item description:
The creatures hide metal in their flesh and their blood flows like sludge. A simple sword will not do here.

This description suggests that the weapon was designed to fight drifters . The mention of metallic flesh parallels historical reports of Romans needing to modify their armor against falx-wielding Dacian forces.

Jonas Falx is a very important character in the game's story. Several Lore Books mention his name, but most important of all is the five-part narrative entitled Reflection .
